Children’s Fun Pony & Horse Show DIVISION 1

This show is specifically developed for beginner and young riders. The concept of this event is to inspire beginners. This event is not intended for the more experienced youth competitors.
Events are designed for fun and intended to demonstrate the special relationship between children and their equine partner.

RULES

All riders will abide by the rules and regulations of the Mountain Township Agricultural Society and the South Mountain Fair.
The Show Committee and the Judge reserve the right to alter conditions or to refuse entries.
The JUDGES DECISION IS FINAL. Any exhibitor who is guilty of creating a disturbance whether by openly criticizing the judge or the committee or using obscene language to any judge or official shall therefore forfeit the right to any premium and may be suspended by the Society from exhibiting.

All riders much wear appropriate riding equipment to their style of riding.

ALL RIDERS MUST WEAR AN APPROVED HELMET AT ALL TIMES WHILE MOUNTED.

Horses and ponies should be neat, cleaned, and in good condition for the show. Unhealthy, poor-conditioned, and or lame horses/ponies will be asked to leave the show ring.
A rider is allowed one minute after the first call by in-gate steward to enter the ring. If not available at that time, the horse and rider may be eliminated.
Entry fees will ONLY BE REFUNDED upon the presentation of a veterinarian’s certificate, presented to the show Secretary by the day immediately following the show.

Classes will be cancelled if there is less than 5 entries.
Class changes during the day will require an additional $2.00/class.
Any protests must be registered to the show committee BY THE RIDER involved before the commencement of the next class.
The Fair Board, the Horse Show Committee, and any workers on the day will not be held responsible for loss, damage or injury to any person, animal, or property in any way involved in the show.
Rain or Shine, NO REFUNDS.
Proof of age is required
Livestock Bracelets will be allotted as follows: 1-2 animals exhibited – 1 Livestock Bracelet, 3-4 animals exhibited – 2 Livestock Bracelets, 5-6 animals exhibited – 3 Livestock Bracelets, 7-8 animals exhibited – 4 Livestock Bracelets, etc.

Costume Contest

(NOTE: the costume class is OPEN to ALL AGES)
Costume Event – Riders will display the costumes they have created for their horse and themselves.

Fun & Games

(children under the age of 12)
English or Western tack. Riders may be accompanied by an adult as required. All classes are timed events, time fault will apply.

Halter Derby

Riders will lead their horse through a course. Each obstacle must be completed (timed event)

Cowboy Obstacle

Riders will ride through a course (a fair chosen pace). Each Obstacle must be completed. (Timed event)

Mini jumps

Riders and ponies will jump over a low series of jumps at a fair pace (4 time faults for every knocked rail)

Apple Dunk

Riders will trot down the ring to a water bucket, dismount and then dunk for an apple (no hands) then lead their horse back to the finish line with apple secure in the rider’s mouth.

Targets

Riders will challenge a series of targets.

Sack Race

Rider trots midway – dismounts – hops (in sack) back to finish line leading pony/horse

Key Hole Race

Rider will trot to end of the ring, turn within keyhole, then return to the finish line (timed event)

Flag Race

Rider will trot mid-way down the ring. Retrieve a scarf/flag off the top of a barrel, carry it to the far end of the ring, go around a barrel, and return to the starting line, leaving the flag back on the mid-way barrel on your way back (timed event)

Cloverleaf Barrels

Riders have the option of riding course A or B.
a. Course A – The entry must cross the timing line, circle barrel 1 clockwise, circle barrel 2 counter clockwise, circle barrel 3 counter clockwise and run between barrels 2 and 3 to cross the timing line.
b. Course B – The entry must cross the timing line, circle barrel 2 counter clockwise, circle barrel 1 clockwise, circle barrel 3 clockwise and run between barrels 2 and 3 to cross the timing line

Pole bending

Contestants may start on either side of the line of poles. They will cross the starting line, move in an approximately straight line to pole 6 (the farthest pole), make a 180-degree turn around pole 6, pass between pole 6 and pole 5, bend through the poles to pole 1, circle pole 1, bend through the poles to pole 6, make a 180-degree turn around pole 6, and cross the starting line by moving along the poles on the side opposite that on which they first approached pole 6

Rope a Calf

Riders will ride around the ring and ‘rope the calf cut outs ‘

Sit a-Buck

Riders will have a ‘bill’ placed under their back upper thigh. Once the bill is in placed, they may not touch it with their hands. Commands will be called out, once the paper has fallen out they are eliminated. The last rider with their ‘bill’ wins. (Game is performed bareback)

Rules

  • Proof of liability insurance in the amount of one million dollars is required with entries.
  • All exhibitors must be paid up members of the Mountain Township Agricultural Society for the current year. A $10.00 membership fee will be deducted from the prize money for the next year membership.
  • Classes may be changed by the Committee for the following year due to lack of entries
  • Judging of the line classes will commence at 9:30 a.m. sharp on Saturday
  • Entry fees must be mailed with entry forms. Entries not accepted via fax or e-mail.

American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA) of Ontario has granted the South Mountain Fair an Official ASHA Ontario points designed show. All American Saddlebred horses showing in the open divisions will have their placing forwarded to the ASHA for points.
Qualifier: Kentucky State Fair Worlds Championship Horse Show Qualifier for the 2020 Adult Amateur and Junior Exhibitor Hackney/Harness Pony Pleasure Driving Divisions.

Entry Fees: Open classes $7.00 – Stake Classes $10.00 – Special Classes $2.00 (Ribbons only).
To be eligible for Stake classes, horses or ponies must have been entered, shown and judged in at least one other performance section within their division.

Stalls: Available to Exhibitors 100 km or more from South Mountain. The stalls are limited in number and will be allotted on a first-come-basis at $20.00 per stall (bedding provided).

Rules:

Birds will be accepted from 6:00 pm Thursday night until 9:00 pm and no later than 9:30 am Friday morning.
The show is being held under A.P.A rules and being judged by “The Standards of Perfection”.
Judging will begin at 10:00 am Friday. Each exhibitor is allowed to enter ONLY two (2) pairs in each class: two (2) males and two (2) females to be judged separately. The judge may withhold a prize if the entry is not worthy.
All exhibitors must pay $1.00 entry fee per bird.
Birds must remain in the show until 3:30 pm Sunday, August 19th or prize money is forfeited. Birds must be picked up between 3:30 pm and 5:30 pm on Sunday.
Birds must be shown in cages supplied by M.T.A.S. An MTAS membership fee of $10.00 is waived for first time adult exhibitors and if you are under the age of 18 years. MTAS and this Committee are not responsible for any loss or damage.
All Standard and Bantams will be shown in a single cage.
